Frequently Asked Questions
In order to use our USB
2.0 drives to their full potential, your computer
must be USB 2.0 ready. Also, there are other conditions
that must be met depending on your hardware and
software. This FAQ was written to give you a better
understanding of all requirements.
Do I require any additional drivers to use your
USB 2.0 flash-drive on my system?
The answer to this has
three possibilities:
1) Since these drives
are backward compatible, they will operate at
USB 1.1 speeds if your system is not USB 2.0 ready.
They will work with Win ME, 2000, XP and MAC 8.6
or above OS without any driver installation. Windows
98 & 98SE will require a simple driver install
(provided with every USB007 drive).
2) In order to operate at USB 2.0 speeds, different
operating systems have specific requirements (if
you purchased a new computer preloaded with software,
these requirement will already have been met).
First, your controller must be USB 2.0 compliant:
- For Windows 2000 users,
you must have instsalled "Microsoft USB
Driver Version 5.1.2600.0"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B319973
- For Windows XP users,
you must have installed "Microsoft Service
Pack 1 (SP1)"
- For Linux users, you
must have kernel 2.5.2 or higher
- For Mac users, there
is no native support from Apple but some
host controller vendors do provide their own
drivers
3) If your system is not
USB 2.0 compliant, you may be able to install
an add-on card. Generally the manufacture will
provide the necessary driver(s) to support those
cards.
The following sites have
these add-on cards for purchase (we do not endorse
or give preference to any particular site for
these products and only provide this information
for your convenience.):
Additional requirements
for USB 2.0 operation:
Because of the faster
data rates, the type of USB cable you use becomes
an important consideration. It should be of a
well shielded construction, twisted-pair wiring
and designed to reduce cross-talk to ensure high-speed,
error-free data transfers. Our 3 foot cable is
ideal for USB 2.0 operation and priced very affordably.

our high quality USB 2.0 cable.
Also, please note that not all
USB 2.0 products are created equal and will not
reach these higher transfer speeds. We use a chipset
designed to maximize USB 2.0 optimal data-transfer
speeds and when used with our
cables designed for USB 2.0 speeds, you will
obtain transfers at up to twice that of some competitors
that use cheaper chipsets.
If you are unsure if your
system is USB 2.0 ready, download
this utility to check your system for USB 2.0
compliance. After you run the test, click on "Details"
and if you see, "Enhanced Host Controller"
interface (ECHI) from NEC or VIA, the hardware
supports 2.0.
